There are two types of collection slots on Olio: ongoing and one-off.
Ongoing collections
These have a start date but no end date
They might happen daily, weekly, fortnightly, or monthly
Once you claim an ongoing collection, it’s yours until you step down or the business stops working with Olio at that time
One-off collections
These happen just once, usually when another Food Waste Hero skips their slot
You can also claim the very first instance of an ongoing collection as a one-off, if you’d like to try it before committing
When an ongoing collection first appears, you’ll now see two buttons:
Claim the one-off plus the ongoing slot (commit long-term)
Claim just the one-off (help out once)
For example: if an ongoing collection starts on 8th May, you’ll have the option to claim just that single collection on 8th May, or both the one-off and the ongoing slot together
This way you can decide if you’d like to stick with a collection regularly, or just help out now and then.
I can't commit to regular collections. Can I still claim collections?
Yes! There are two ways you can claim collections without committing to regular collections:
The first is by covering collections that have been skipped by other Food Waste Heroes. Update your notification settings on the Volunteer Hub to be alerted when a one-off collection becomes available near you.
The second is by claiming the first instance of any available ongoing collection as a one-off collection. For example: If there is an ongoing collection with a start date of the 8th May, you’ll have the option to claim the collection on the 8th May as a one-off.
